I've been too busy to post much lately, but we do have some important Dorkwave news for you: This Wednesday night Team Dorkwave and Friends will be taking over the Garden Bowl at Detroit's Majestic Complex for the Metro Times BlowOut preview party. We're very flattered to have been asked, and promise to deliver a true Dorkwave experience... Guests to include Mike Trombley (The Sights), Sam Consiglio (Tamion 12 Inch), Jimmy Edgar (Warp Records) and more! We'll be back on Friday night, DJing in support of Esquire at the Magic Stick. This should be quite a hoot. Finally, the Les Infants Terribles Anniversary Party has been postponed until April due to a fire at Corktown Tavern. Our best wishes go out to Tom and the staff at our favorite bar, and hope to see the joint re-open soon... so we can get back at it, and finally bring you a live set from Goudron...

Intelligent MIDI Sequencing with Hamster Control This project was initially fueled by the desire to explore the MIDI protocol. It was decided that this would be accomplished by building a MIDI device. I also aimed to make something novel that had never been done before.

Deitch web site: now up. It's about time! (Really nice work though.) On a slight tangent, I just got an adavance copy of the new Fischerspooner LP at the Lab here. (Thanks, Ryan!) Too soon to give it a fair assesment, but I'm thinking Warren has been either listening to a lot of, or hanging out with Bitshifter, eh? Bleep, bleep, bloop.

Apple.com has a new piece posted about a documentary filmed by Jim Sugar and Brian Lawler on Burt Rutan and Scaled Composites. There are a couple of video clips from the yet to be aired project, the best is the 8-min 'trailer' The article notes that Rutan gave Sugar and Lawler complete access to the facilities and development of Space Ship One. I'm particularly interested in the interviews captured here with Rutan who has that increasingly rare American spirit of dream it and build it. Hopefully a network will grab the opportunity to air this piece soon.

Last night's Les Infants Terribles Valentine's Ball was absolutely ridiculous. Many thanks to Panic and Burgundy of Pas/Cal for DJing, bringing carnations and helping decorate, Lauren Casteel for baking delicious cupcakes, Dorkette and team for the fabuously over-the-top decorations, gift bags and treats, and to everyone who came out and danced. It was our our biggest night yet and a ton of fun... even crazier than Dorkpol, if you could imagine. The comment was made this morning, "You know that you and Jon have created a whirling dervish here that's out of your control." Perhaps. :) If you missed out or just can't get enough, we have two big events planned for March: Dorkwave and Friends will be hosting the Metro Times Blowout preview party at the Garden Bowl in Detroit on Wednesday 3/2/05, with guest DJs Mike Trombley (The Sights), Sam Consiglio (Tamion 12 Inch) and more. Saturday 3/19/05 is the Les Infants Terribles One Year Anniversary Party at Corktown Tavern. The multi-tallented Ron Zakrin will be performing live as Goudron for the first time in nearly a year. We're working on a few other surprises to celebrate a year of great muisc, building bridges, making dancing fun, keeping everyone guessing, and instigating the kind of good natured debachury that myths are made of. Burnlab was on the scene at 7:30am this morning to cover the unveiling of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's ambitious 'Gates' piece in Central Park. We arrived near the Met to see several groups of volunteers pulling the strips of tape that held the fabric panels to the temporary structures(top photo) Walking near the reservoir, we happened to notice a Maybach cruising down the parkway followed by several NYPD cars. Sensing we were in the right place at the right time for a Burnlab exclusive for our beloved readers, we ran down a wooded section to where the car came to a stop. Camera in hand, Christo and Jeanne-Claude stepped out with a camera crew to do a short interview. Jeanne-Claude with freshly dyed saffron colored hair and Christo wearing rather fashionable gardening gloves. They were both greeted with applause from the somewhat stunned group of people who like me, just happened to be there. The rest of the morning was spent trying to wrap our minds around the enormity of this project. The scale of both the beauty and the sheer number is difficult to communicate with words or pictures. This is not something you can evaluate using comparisons to art shows in galleries or museum spaces. You really feel like you have been shrunken down and are walking through a painting. The changing light and a slight breeze translate to dramatic effects. Curiously, I passed not one sad face on my walk from 86th street to 57th street today. The Gates will be part of Central Park for the next two weeks.

Our good friends at Motor City Rocks point out what may be perhaps the most embarrassingly bad headline the Detroit Free Press has ever printed... and the Freep is infamous for bad headlines:
Coffeehouse brings New York style to Taylor
Taylor is a nice enough place, but about as mundane a suburb you will find in the midwest (internet cafe or not,) and "New York style" is a phrase that instantly induces nausea in NYorkers... and just about anyone who has actually been to New York.
(Also see "...it's just like New York.")

Dorkwave receives a nice mention in the San Francisco Bay Guardian:
"...at Dorkwave's Les Infants Terribles party (yes, they know it should be "Enfants," but "L.I.T." looked better than "L.E.T.") at the Corktown Tavern - a place thick with smoke, heavy on electro and synth pop, but content with its tight, friendly vibe - I finally feel like I'm home again."
